Memorial book

We have a memorial book (pictured at left) of Friedrich Heppenheimer that was created by his friends and colleagues following his death.  It is in German, but we have translations of some parts of the book.

Translation

One section of the memorial book has been translated.  This translation is the tribute to his life.  In flowery language, it tells the story of his birth where "next to his crib his mother's coffin was placed" (she died in childbirth), to his travel to the United States in 1847 and his success as a businessman, husband, father and friend to many.

This family tree shows ancestors of W. Rudolf vom Saal (my father), including  Friedrich Heppenheimer who was my father's father's father's father (my grandfather's grandfather). 

Christina Hofer, wife of Friedrich Heppenheimer

We do not have much information about Christina Hofer, although there may be more in some of materials from Steve Stumpp mentioned above.  The photo at left is a painting of her that hung in the old family home in Sharon Springs, NY.  She is wearing a locket with the photo of her husband Friedrich.  We still have that locket.  A few more photos are on my photos website.
